My husband Andy and I usually do teddy bear making workshops or bear design workshops on a one to one basis (or you can bring a friend), in our home near the sea, between Glenluce and Dunragit in Dumfries and Galloway, in the far south west of Scotland
How much will it cost?The cost is £100 per day plus materials. If there are two of you the cost is £150 per day plus materials. If you are a beginner you should come for two days as it isn't possible to teach someone how to make a teddy bear in one day. What can you learn?I try to cover any aspect of bear making from beginner's to advanced level, plus help with the design, marketing and setting up in business, if that's what you would like. I tailor the day to suit your needs and the aim is to produce your own beautiful bear by the end of the day, we won't let you make a bear that you won't be proud of, even if you're a complete beginner. I can help with; design, hand sewing, machining, needle sculpture, nose sewing, eyes, ears, dyeing mohair, sourcing materials, promotion, trade organisations, website design, insurance awareness etc. We've been making bears for a living for over 20 years so we have a lot of experience to draw on. What do I need? What can I expect?I usually ask people to bring some of their own bears and then go on from there, the object is generally to have a bear finished by the time you leave (even if we end up in pyjamas). We'll supply you with hot or cold drinks throughout the day and lunch, we often share a take away with our guests in the evening, or you can go our to one of our local restaurants or pubs. Where can I stay? We can suggest some local B&Bs or self catering accommodation. It's a popular tourist area with lots to see and places to stay We have a group that wants to do a workshop, can you help?If there are several of you that would like to do a bear making workshop we may be able to do this at a local hall or restaurant, please phone us and we'll try and sort it out for you.
